During high school, I dated a couple of different girls. Although I had fun with girls that I dated and enjoyed their company, I could never see myself being in a serious relationship with these girls. The reasons were never the same, but I simply couldn’t see myself settling down and being with these girls for an extended amount of time. However, I have always been a very upfront person, and because I made these girls aware of my feelings quite early, it never caused any problems and we were simply able to enjoy spending time with each other.
Because this had been the extent of my experience of relationships, I simply assumed that I wasn’t cut out for being in a serious relationship and would just continue my ways of dating. While this did hold true for my first semester in college, everything changed during my second semester of college. The reason that everything changed is because I met Heather. From the first time I talked to Heather, I noticed there was something about her that absolutely intrigued me. While I had only wanted to go out with those other girls on a limited basis, I literally felt like I wanted to spend every minute of my time with Heather.
Fast forward to the present (which is two years later), and I am madly in love with Heather. We have been together for this entire period of time, and I truly think I could spend the rest of my life with her. However, since we are both still in college, I know it wouldn’t be wise to get married. In spite of this, I wanted Heather to know that I have every intention of staying with her, which is exactly why I gave her a diamond promise ring on our second anniversary!
